Fun Shit, Themed fun

81 Days to Halloween

Short and sweet blog post. Yes, I know it’s August. Yes, I know Halloween is October 31st. I had a couple reasons for doing a Halloween project in August. First, I won’t have time in October. School starts back up in a couple of weeks and that will take all my spare time, and then some. Second, I recently quit smoking. This project was part of my quit plan. It kept my hands busy. I worked on this a little bit each day for a couple of weeks.

This was so cheap and easy to do. Most of my materials were purchased at the Dollar store. I found a couple items at thrift shops; the bats and church were purchased on Temu. A couple of items I had from my fairy garden stash. I started with one doll house and one Disney princess from the dollar tree and some black paint. Once I saw how cute it looked painted black, I couldn’t stop.

Fast forward to a Halloween Village on my mantle. Similar to putting up a Christmas Village, but cool because it’s black. Here are some photos of the process and final result. I am sure I will add and tweak before Halloween. Afterall, it is still 81 days away. But who’s counting?!?!

PS It feels great to be a nonsmoker. Still working on toning down the crabbiness. But my lungs are happy!

Painting everything black was surprisingly fun! This is part-way through one house, you can see Elsa and Ariel have started their witchy make-over too!
Here are the finished houses and witchy princesses.
This metal house is from a thrift store and was already black. All I did was add some orange and purple paint, along with some moss.
I used extra foam padding we had from my husband’s costumes and cut out tombstones. I covered them in Mod Podge before painting.
I started with a felt tray from the Dollar Tree. Turned it upside down and painted the edges. Then I hot glued my painted fairy garden fence in sections. When finished I painted the glue. Because that material absorbed so much paint, I didn’t touch the top. Instead I painted cardboard that I glued the tombstones to.
Finished cemetery all lit up at dark.
It’s just as cute during daylight hours.
This was my Temu purchase! Not only is it black and sparkly, it lights up. The skeleton bride and groom are in a snow-globe like church that creates super spooky lighting. In addition to playing creepy music, it has this blue light projection coming out. Super dope.
Finished project! I didn’t use everything I painted. I ran out of space. I still love the way it turned out!
